Design that Matters - Mechanical Engineering Intern - Redmond (USA)

  • Timing: June to August, 2019

Design that Matters (DtM) is seeking a driven, socially-committed, entrepreneurial individual with an industrial background and strong CAD and prototyping skills to join our summer student team at our new design studio in Redmond, WA. In a ten-week design sprint, we will challenge you to develop a functional prototype of a medical device for newborns in developing countries, based on work already in progress at DtM.

WeRobotics - Mechanical Engineering Intern - Bern (Switzerland)

WeRobotics is an international NGO that’s committed to creating a future where local communities can use robotics for social good. As part of our social good mission, we developed a mechanism (https://blog.werobotics.org/2018/12/13/how-local-drone-pilots-are-helpin...) for aerial drones that can accurately release mosquitoes to control populations and, ultimately, combat the threat of mosquito-borne diseases such as Dengue and Zika.

Build Change - BIM Design Innovation Intern - Kathmandu (Nepal)

Foundedin 2004, Build Change is an award-winning, innovative international nonprofit social enterprise whose mission is to save lives in earthquakes and hurricanes. We do that by designing disaster-resistant houses and schools; training homeowners, builders, engineers and government officials to build them; working with governments to develop and implement building standards; partnering with the private sector to improve building materials quality and create jobs; and facilitating access to incentive-based capital for reconstruction and retrofitting by partnering with financing institutions and government subsidy programs.

MASS Design Group - Design Technology Intern - Kigali (Rwanda)

MASS Design Group is a non-profit organization that uses design to make improvements in health care, education, housing, and the natural environment. Working in challenging terrain, with little information, solving big problems,with little resources. MASS begun 2008 during the design / building of the Butaro District Hospital in Rwanda; a project of Partners In Health and the Rwandan Ministry of Health. MASS has expanded to work in over a dozen countries in Africa and the Americas. Our work spans the design of buildings and landscapes, research, policy, education, and strategic planning.

Sanergy - Design Intern - Nairobi (Kenya)

  • Timing: May 1st – July 31st, 2019
  • submission until: 30th April, 2019

We are proud of what we have achieved, but tons of waste remain in the community, and there are many people we do not currently reach with our Fresh Life Toilet. To capture more waste and serve more people, Sanergy’s Future Initiatives team develops and tests new products and services for addition to the Fresh Life portfolio. One of these pilots is Mtaa Fresh – formalizing manual pit emptiers, creating safe tools and standards for their processes, and operating a transfer station to receive their pit sludge, remove it from the community and treat it.

Splash - Product Design Intern - Seattle (USA)

Splash is an international charitable organization headquartered in Seattle, WA, founded in 2007. Our mission is simple: “We clean water for kids.” Small, young and growing, Splash is in a unique position to be groundbreaking in the global health and WASH sectors, able to try new approaches to address the needs of urban kids. In ten years, we have brought and continue to ensure safe drinking water to over 400,000 children in cities around the world. Splash is pursuing funding to reach 100% of government schools in Addis Ababa with full WASH coverage by the end of 2023.
