Software: Fusion 360

Description

DESIGN INSPIRATION

The inspiration for design was derived from Sci-Fi movies robots. In order to achieve the balance between a fully rigid piece of wood and a fully functional leg, some characteristic values of one needed to be mended with the other. This process helped me to visualize a product which doesn’t compromise on behalf of necessary functionality as well as can help and assist the person in ever changing terrains.

The features provided are axisymmetric to functionality of a real Human Leg. I used pictures of human leg as a canvas to revolve my product ideology around it. The Sculpt Mode in Autodesk Fusion 360 was used to design the complex parts of the product while regular extrusion tools were helpful in overall construction.

Features

The major features of the product are as described below-

ECU (ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT): The ECU is basically the brain of the prosthetic leg which decides how much assistance to provide, when to provide and where to provide. It can be programmed to tackle complex terrain conditions (Varying friction, traction, speed etc.). The software will receive regular updates to operate at maximum efficiency and user experience will enhance over time.

SOLE RUBBER: To provide fixed traction at the front end of the feet. This component is fixed for all terrain conditions.

TRACTION CONTROL: This component receives instructions from ECU in order to maintain the traction at the toe. This is the variable component of the traction control and ECU decides how much traction to provide according to its judgement of the surroundings.

LOWER JOINT: This joint function as the metatarsal joint of the feet. This also receives instructions from the ECU about how much to bend at particular step in order to provide the occupant a sensation of walking.

PNEUMATICS: This is an arrangement provided at the lower end of the leg in order to absorb sudden bumps (Minor) while walking.

SPRING: The spring further assists the pneumatic system to absorb the larger bumps, sudden fall and acts like the back-end muscle of the leg.

KNEE JOINT: The knee joint functions as a regular knee joint provided with indicators for the battery in case it runs low.

Purpose
To provide an effective prosthetic foot to amputees to make them feel the sensation of walking again.
