Planes, trains, and automobiles

So far, 2016 is off to a great start for Autodesk Design Academy.  Over the holidays we surpassed 25,000 members and our community added lots of exciting new designs to their portfolios—go check them out!  Perhaps all the holiday travel was inspirational because many of the designs we’ve been seeing from students have focused on transportation, from concept cars to personal aircrafts to stationary bikes, the creativity of our student community never fails to impress us!

Audi’s chief designer Stefan Sielaff says that “…a customer always makes a statement about themselves with their choice of car—who they are or who they would like to be.”  If you could design your ideal car, what would it say about you?  For inspiration, check out Grant Holmberg-Baugher’s portfolio of car designs, and read more about his design process in this student highlight.

The coolest car in the world won’t get you out of a traffic jam, but this concept for a personal aircraft by Rosdiana Herytano Putra would.  The SC-41 VTOL Personal Vehicle can take off and land in a limited area like a helicopter but flies with the agility of an airplane.

If you like to stay a little more earth-bound, try your hand at designing a new concept for a bicycle, hoverboard, or skateboard such as these skate wheels designed by Mario López that give skaters a smoother ride and inspire you to get more exercise (and maybe accomplish one of your New Year’s resolutions).

If El Niño and snowstorms are getting in the way of your 2016 exercise goals, then why not take a stab at inventing a new exercise machine such as the Hexbike designed by Kamal Fuad?

No matter what you choose to design we hope you share it with us in your portfolio.  We are always so excited to see the innovative work Design Academy users are creating and can’t wait to see what you come up with in 2016!
